Following his passion for performing and creating music, 17-year-old Victoria, BC, native Tristan Thompson has kicked his music career into high gear with several chart-topping singles and as well as live and TV performances. A multi-talented performer, Tristan’s lively vocals have helped him to gain a loyal fan following and attention from music industry insiders. Tristan’s 12-song sophomore album, “Love You Can Believe In”, was released on May 2nd, 2016.
The word is out that this Canadian kid has all the ingredients – the looks, charm, personality, moves and the music. Well, if the buzz surrounding his new album is any indication, Tristan is indeed all that and an unopened can of coca cola. From the videos we already know the girls love him, and soon the guys will be coming around too, bumping along to his new club-flavored fare.
The critics will be jumping on the bandwagon as well, after listening to “Love You Can Believe In”, and before you know it, bob’s your uncle…or rather Tristan Thompson will be on his way to pop stardom!
Admittedly, I too, got sucked into the hype, and I’m not the least bit hesitant about giving Tristan Thompson his due props for this album. The fact this is geared towards the urban and pop markets, is evident right off the bat, as the album kicks off with the slinky lead single “Man Of Your Dreams” and the wall-to-wall pop anthem “Love You Can Believe In”.
They are choice mainstream combinations sprinkled with just the right amount of organic ingredients to give it that tasty radio feel. The wicked drum beats, blazing bass-lines and plucky synth arrangements, kicks in with the subsequent tracks “Forever Mine” and “Unbreakable”.
Thereafter Tristan unleashes his one-of-a-kind sonic pop mastery on tracks like the soul-and-butt-bouncing “One Of A Kind”, “Number One” and “Pride And Joy”. But he shows that he can slow it down too, as on “Stuff Of Legends”, “Never Loved You More” and “Beautiful Angel”.
Top 40 pop enthusiasts will probably need only one single listen to fully enjoy the results of these songs. The production itself is top-notch, while the lyrics are fitting to the themes. The dose of buttery-smooth, chocolate soul vocals and the positively buoyant performances on many of the aforementioned tracks are impressive all the way around.
Tristan Thompson’s supple vocals flit and flutter through the notes, going anywhere from full-on crooning to a quavering falsetto. As it stands, this sophomore album is very good – solid and definitely fun to listen to.
Tristan obviously still has a whole lot of unexpressed talent to tap into, considering his very young age. So the future looks really bright for him…and for all of us who be expecting a long series of musical gems waiting just beyond the horizon.
